| HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE The B.E. 2c (Bleriot Experimental 2c) was intended for reconnaissance so the first thing the designers did was to make the B.E. series steady and stable for reconnaissance purposes. Performance, maintenance and handling were of secondary importance. It was used as for reconnaissance, bombing and as a Home Defence fighter against dirigibles. The poor maneuverability of the B.E.s quickly became apparent to the Germans and beginning in 1915 shot them down with ease. The B.E.2c was in service until April 1917 as there was no suitable replacement and many had been built.
