thanks for the encouragement! i decided to take a break from the tail section and move forward. after thinking about the stick mount and looking at burts d.iii build i came up with this. the motor mount was easy, building it on f1 gave me the required down and right thrust. the problem was trying to figure out where to place the motor on the mount. i ended up going with brute force.

I knew you could do it!!!  Great solution.
One reason I like scratch building is solving these little problems. A good solution is always very satisfying, even several weeks later when you fly the machine and know the ole grey cells can still function.  ---Bert

thanks kay, thanks bert. the puzzling is VERY satisfying. it may however be more than a few weeks before this one flys! Grin

kay, do you think the ply plate for the stick mount is necessary now? with that out of the way there would be lots of room for the battery and esc. i am installing all the electronics and control lines before stringers and sheeting this time. more room for my big fingers.

The ply plate for mounting the stick was just for that.  I don't recall that it was structural. If the sides of the fuselage are stiff enough, there should be no problem in removing it.

back to the tail. installed rudder and elevator servos as per plan with rudder servo off to one side and elevator servo near center. control line runs were eyeballed and a sharpened brass tube was used to cut the channels through the foam. nylon tube was inserted and tacked in place with foam safe medium ca. checked control runs with thread and all looks good!

Why not locate both the servos as close to center as possible?  Or, perhaps better, why not center both of them, placing one above the other?

center line, one above the other with elevator servo on its side would be ideal however access to mounting hardware and adjustment screws become a problem. unless you have elves working for you and i think there are laws about that.  Wink
i have read that symmetry in a closed loop system of this size is not a big issue but complexity and weight in a servo mounting solution could be. save the weight for detail! i keep repeating to myself

build light, build light, build light...

i havent been out for over four months so i just took my HZ supercub to warm up the thumbs. everything went great. i changed it from 7 cell nimh to 3s lipo since the last time i flew it. can you say ZOOOOOOM!

the scout will shed its earthly shackles soon.
